Recorded in 1984, this delectable album of Vivaldi concertos introduced many listeners to the wider delights of a composer then known primarily for the violin concertos comprising his 'Four Seasons'. Here the atmospheric timbres of lute, mandolin and viola d'amore transport us back to mid-eighteenth-century Venice in a whirl of musical opportunity: 'The performances are 'authentic' in the best meaning of the word, and the recorded sound is everywhere first rate' (Gramophone).
