Lovers is a studio album by American singer-songwriter Mickey Newbury, released in 1975. It sits in the country and singer-songwriter tradition, blending lush, reflective arrangements with Newbury’s characteristically intimate, melancholic writing and vocal delivery. The album is often noted for its atmospheric production and emotional depth, with themes of love, loss and quiet resignation running through the songs.Key tracks include Apples Dipped in Candy, the expansive opener that sets a contemplative tone, the gentle, poignant title track Lovers, and Sail Away, which continues the album’s introspective, narrative style. Other songs such as When Do We Stop Starting Over and You Always Got the Blues reinforce the mood of bittersweet reflection. On CD, Lovers has been preserved as part of broader collections of Newbury’s work, helping to cement its reputation as a significant entry in his 1970s catalogue and an example of richly arranged, poetic country singer-songwriter music.
