Op 6 & 7 september 2019 gaf Metallica 2 achtereenvolgende avonden een concert ter ere van de opening van het Chase Center in San Francisco. Tijdens de ruim twee-en-een-half uur durende show, speelde de band 20 nummers. Daarnaast selecteerde Michael Tilson Thomas , de Musical Director van de San Francisco Symphony, 2 unieke klassieke nummers. Het concert werd opgenomen in beeld en geluid en ging in oktober 2019 in Amerika de bioscopen in. S&M 2 is recentelijk opnieuw bewerkt door de band, waarbij de audio geremixt en geremasterd werd. Deze versie bevat vier zwarte LP's met een 16 pagina's tellend 12x12 boekje met foto's van Anton Corbijn.
