Nikolai Demidenko turns his formidable pianistic gaze onto the Bach transcriptions of Ferruccio Busoni. These are no mere organ works being played on the piano: Busoni instead aims to push the piano (& pianist) to the very limits of possibility, re-imagining Bachian perfection in a language all of his own. Such was the success of this 'magnificently played' (BBC Music Magazine) album originally envisaged as a one-off that it quickly had to be rebranded as 'Volume 1' in an ever-burgeoning series.
